What is 3D Mammography?
3D mammography (also referred to as breast tomosynthesis) produces digital, three-dimensional images of the breast. In this format, our radiologists can view the image in one-millimeter slices. This makes it possible to examine breast tissue at a level of detail never before possible.
What are the advantages of 3D mammography?
A recent study in The Journal of the American Medical Association found that 3D mammography delivers a:
41% increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers
29% increase in the detection of all breast cancers
40% decrease in false positives
15% decrease in patients being recalled for additional imaging
NOTE: If you detect a lump or are experiencing pain or other symptoms, do not schedule a screening mammography. Instead, please contact your primary care provider immediately.
